AL MERRICK CI MID 7.0 FCS2 IN STOCK
Inspired by the clean, longer-railed lines drawn by traditional eggs and single-fins, the CI Mid infuses that vibe with the crispness, sensitivity, and freedom made possible by modern features synonymous with Merrick design principles. Boasting a moderate midlength template with low entry rocker and foam forward for ease of paddle and effortless trim speed, the CI Mid scoots, squirts and swivels thanks to contemporary features like double-barrel concave, graduated rocker, and hard, slightly tucked rails through and off the tail.
The minimalist logo is out of the Channel Islands Archives—a lam Al put on his boards in the early ’70s—all CI Mids are stocked with high quality, colorful resin craftsmanship (6-4oz. decks with 6oz. bottoms).
For what type of wave do we recommend the CI Mid Surfboard?
A reliable all-arounder that flies over the flatter, smaller stuff, the CI Mid reallystands apart from other midlength designs in shoulder-high to nearly double overhead point surf, where surfers are able to lay down flowy, arcing turns with total confidence, speed, and control.
The CI Mid is super versatile and goes really well in steep and fast waves. During the development of the board it was tested in double overhead, barreling Honolua Bay and the Channel Islands Surfer´s team loved it.
What fins do we recommend for CI Mid Length?
CI MID FINS
As we know, the choice of fins can be key to the proper functioning of a surfboard in the water. A bad choice can ruin your surfing. For Channel Islands' CI Mid, Al Merrick has worked closely with surfer Devon Howard and True Ames Fins. As a result of this work they recommend a 2+1 fin set that demonstrates its versatility in a wide range of conditions with a simple adjustment of the central fin.
- 3.6″ side bites are designed for surfers 160lbs and under
- 4.0″ side bites are designed for surfers over 160lbs
Recommended fin set up: ci mid 2 + 1 fin set

CI MID REVIEW
The Al Merrick CI Mid is undoubtedly the trendy surfboard of the moment. Here is Devon Howard's opinion about this board:
"Most mid boards feel limited in the smaller waves because the longer edges and bottom contours on most of them require a bigger, more powerful canvas to really open up and do their thing," he says. "When we hand-shape our initial prototypes [CI Mid], I was instantly amazed at how well they go in the two-foot waves. It was like discovering a totally different quiver to the one I'd never had access to before, especially in smaller waves, and it was mostly thanks to the added speed of its double concave. We landed in a modern, relaxed design that slides, moves and turns with ease".
"Social media is really changing the landscape of what surfers are exposed to, and what most surfers today are engaged in," he says. "You see 10 times more videos of Torren Martyn than most of the top surfers in CT. This seems to be translating into a demand from the big brands to make boards that address what people like.
