The Channel Islands Tri Plane Hull is the new midlength from Mike February and Al Merrick. After the CI Mid, CI Surfboards releases this Mid Length inspired by 70's and 80's designs. This is a fun and easy to surf board that incorporates a new version of the concave design.

Al Merrick Tri Plane Hull single
Our follow up with Devon Howard to the ever-popular "CI Mid”, the Tri Plane Hull Single is a single-fi n midlength that actually works. While many boards within this genre look cool, they are often slow, sticky, boggy, or diffi cult to turn. The Tri Plane Hull, on the other hand, is like being atop a ballbearing and gives the rider an immense sense of freedom, speed and control.
The outline is straight from Al’s egg models in the early to mid 1970s. We also coupled Al’s famous Tri Plane Hull bottom from the period with our modern midlength rocker. Al’s Tri Plane Hull (based on designs by George Greenough, though more toned down in its physical features) was aimed at a more user-friendly single fi n that went rail to rail with ease and could be pumped down the line while providing increased speed, hold and projection off the bottom.
Later versions of his Tri Plane design in the 80s and 90s became subtler and morphed into the standard double barrel concave we all enjoy to this day on high performance boards.
CI TRI PLANE HULL FINS
Fins recommended view
Devon Howard has worked on the design of specific fins to complete this beautiful Mid Length. We recommend Channel Isalnds TPH Hull fins to get the most out of this board.
These fins are available in 3 sizes:
- 8" fin: for boards 6.7" and below.
- TPH 8.5" fin: for boards between 6.8" and 7.5".
- TPH fins 9" : for Tri Plane Hull with a length greater than 7.6".
With a narrow tip to help the board pivot easily and turn in a very tight space, while its more conservative design and rake provides the drive needed to surf with Flow.
